New Dog Welcome Assessment

A Thoughtful First Visit
Before a dog becomes part of our Daily Care & Enrichment program, we want the chance to meet them properly. Our New Dog Welcome Assessment is a relaxed introductory visit designed to help your pup become familiar with Pawsh n’ Play while giving our team time to learn what makes them feel comfortable, confident and secure.
Rather than simply deciding whether a dog ‘passes’ an evaluation, we look at the whole dog – how they communicate, explore, respond to new experiences and interact with the environment around them. What we learn helps us determine the type of care, pace and social setting that will allow them to have the best possible experience with us.
What We're Getting to Know
During the visit, our team pays attention to your dog’s natural communication and behaviour, including:
- How they settle into an unfamiliar space
- Confidence, curiosity and willingness to explore
- Responses to movement, sounds and activity around them
- Signs that they may need additional space, breaks or a more gradual introduction
- Their comfort with our team and gentle handling
- Energy level and preferred style of play
- Social comfort and communication around other dogs, when appropriate
After the Assessment
We’ll share our observations with you and recommend the next step. Your dog may be ready to join Daily Care & Enrichment, or we may suggest a gentler transition plan before moving into a fuller day. Our priority is never to force a dog into an environment that doesn’t suit them – it is to create positive experiences and protect the comfort and wellbeing of every pup in our care.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does every new dog need a Welcome Assessment?
Yes. It gives us an important opportunity to meet your pup individually before welcoming them into our Daily Care & Enrichment program.
